Dr. Soncerey M. Speas has distinguished herself as a spirited speaker, creative visionary, forward- thinking leader and motivational mentor. She has extensive experience as an educator, administrator, and speaker. Her love for God and passion for ministry are reflected in her ability to teach with skillful execution, practical application and scriptural insight. Humble yet energetic, Dr. Speas uses her time and talents to help equip others for greater works and to advance the kingdom of God. Furthermore, she is committed to living a purpose-driven life and walking in God’s divinely ordained plan for success. She embraces Matthew 5:16 as one of her favorite scriptures: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Dr. Speas has made many presentations at local, national and international conferences/conventions, including the NC General Baptist State Convention, the National Communication Association Conference, and the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities. Additionally, she has served on several local and national boards, including the Board of Directors for the National Collegiate Honors Council, the Advisory Board for the State Employees Credit Union, the Executive Board for Pink Gem Team (a breast cancer awareness organization) and the Congress of Christian Education for the High Point Educational and Missionary Baptist Association (HPEMBA). Dr. Speas has also received numerous awards and honors, including the MLK, Jr. Building the Dream Award, Wilma Lassiter Master Teacher Award and the National Women of Achievement Award. She is the author of The Heart of a Student: Success Principles for College Students and the founder of “Success with Soncerey” business ventures. Dr. Speas received the Bachelor of Arts from North Carolina State University, the Master of Arts from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and the Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Currently, Dr. Speas is the chairperson and an associate professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Winston-Salem State University. Additionally, Dr. Speas is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and a faithful member of Fresh Wind Fellowship Baptist Church.

Dr. Speas is married to Pastor Ronald E. Speas. They have two children, Brittany and Bryan (Kirby), and three grandchildren, Brenden, Greyson and Khloe’.
